Our Story
A true case of right person, wrong time.
We first met in our senior year of high school in an English class. What began as a small crush quickly turned into dating, late nights, and graduating together. By the end of the summer of 2017, life took us in different directions — Annika to the University of Saskatchewan, and Tanner to the University of Lethbridge — thinking that chapter had come to an end.
Years later, during Annika’s final semester, Tanner’s face kept popping up in her Facebook suggested friends. After weeks of seeing it, she finally added him — expecting nothing more than reconnecting with an old friend, and certainly not a future husband. What started as a few Facebook DMs, FaceTimes, and a very “friendly” hike at Johnston Canyon soon turned into a long‑distance relationship between Saskatoon and Lethbridge.
After Annika became an RN and moved back to Calgary, Tanner soon followed to finish school online. One very coincidental apartment search later, we ended up living right next door to each other — and not long after, moving in together.
What truly connects us is our shared love of adventure, the outdoors, and long bike rides and runs. You’ll usually find us in the mountains, traveling (most recently to New Zealand), or cheering each other on at endurance races.
So it felt only fitting that Tanner asked Annika to marry him on a hike at Johnston Canyon — the same place our second chapter began. Proof that sometimes the best love stories are worth the wait.
